Shweikeh launch second stage of fiber optics network for Northern Region

With total cost of 15 million JD, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Majd Shweikeh launched the second stage of fiber optics project for Northern Region"Irbid, Ajlun, Jerash, Mafraq".
The attendees of the launching ceremony held in Irbid governorate included minister of housing Sami Halash, general secretary of ICT ministry Nader Thunaibat and general director of Al.Masar union company Sharif Al.Saifi and representatives from local society.
Minister Shaweikeh insisted that fiber optics national network is in line with His Majesty King Abdullah II vision to establish wide, secure and high speed government network to connect public institutions in the kingdom governorates.
She added that fiber optics program applied in the kingdom governorates – middle and south – will connect 3600 educational institution, including public schools, social colleges educational and knowledge centers.
The project will also help in enhancing the educational system in Jordan through encouraging the use of information and communication technology for educational purposes in schools, universities, social colleges, and educational centers in the entire kingdom, through high speed fiber optic network. In addition it will contribute in the development of health system in Jordan by connecting hospitals and health centers, minister Shaweikeh explained.
On related topic, Shaweikeh has mentioned that this project will also contribute in enhancing social, knowledgeable, economic development in northern governorate. It will increase the economic activities in this area, because of the leading projects depending on the wide network, which will connect all institutions in a safe, accurate and easy network.
Contractor from Al.Masar, the company executing the project, Hafiz Jaraa said that the company has prepared all the needed papers and took the necessary government approvals. He added that field work team is ready to start within the project timeline, in addition to another team specialized in putting ground and air cables on the electronic networks in order to install the machines.
The second stage of the project will witness the connection of 644 additional locations in "Irbid, Ajlun, Jerash, Al.Mafraq", including 543 educational institutes, 92 governmental buildings, 29 health buildings. During the first stage of the project, 500 locations were connected, "Irbid, Mafraq and Ramtha "."
In the coming two years, 1100 Km of fiber optic cables will be installed on Irbid Electricity Company and necessary excavation will be done to install fiber optics to connect these locations.
 It is worth mentioning that fiber optics network national program aims to enhance the use of information technology, to establish new services, and develop the infrastructure to benefit the local sector and to pave the road towards new information and communication technology markets for educational, social and economic purposes.
