Smart identification cards project second stage

Minister of Information and Communication Technology and Minister of Public Sector Development Majd Shweikeh announced that the second stage of smart ID cards which is in the preparation process will include validity to offer electronic services. She added that the smart card will host applications on the electronic SIM included in the card.
The declaration is pronounced during a meeting held at ICT ministry and Jimalto Company; which is executing the project. The meeting was attended by the general secretary of ICT Ministry Nader Thunaibat and representatives from electronic government project, in addition to deputy of general manager and director of the Middle East for governmental projects in Jimalto Hashim Al.Sarkhi. Also, it included the regional manager of Middle East in Jimalto, Ahmed Khlfat.
The ministry is ready for executing the second stage of smart civil status cards, as the first stage is accomplished and the Civil Status and Passports Department had started to submit the smart cards for citizens since the end of last June, Minister Shweikeh said.
Offices of Civil Statues and Passports Department are ready to issue the smart card Shweikeh, added. Until now 52 offices related to Department of Civil Status and Passports Department are ready to issue the cards for citizens, and 20 offices will be ready in the coming few weeks.
During the meeting which was held with Jimalto, the company executing this project, list of priorities was determined in the second stage of the project. Minister Shweikeh insisted on the importance of executing the project for the benefit of the daily life of citizens. She pointed out that the smart ID card is considered as an important step in Jordan's efforts towards electronic transformation, as it will help in accomplishing lot of daily processes.

The new card will include the essential information for the civilians, in addition to information kept in the electronic SIM, the fingerprint, electronic signature and the announced address. The new smart card contains 114 "Kilobyte" electronic SIM, in addition to international specifications that enables it to include more services in future. It has also 17 security codes and it is valid for 10 years. The card has been manufactured from “bolly carbonate " and laser technology is used in printing.
